Introduction

Obviously, the goal of any youth ministry is to help young people grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. But how does that happen? Where do you start? This module gives a very basic overview of some of the principles and practices for effective ministry with middle and high school age disciples. This module was developed in partnership with the Presbyterian Youth Workers Association (PYWA). PYWA exists to connect, uphold, and inspire Presbyterian youth workers to faithfully serve the one triune God among young people.

Basics of Youth Ministry

Every youth ministry should include community building, faith formation, and logistics and administration. In the video below, Kristopher “Bubba” Brammer gives some details about each of these core elements.

Quicksheets

Quicksheets are 2-3 page PDF’s full of ministry ideas and links to other resources on a variety of topics in the area of Christian Formation developed by the PC(USA) Office of Christian Formation, often in partnership with other organizations. The following quicksheets are particularly helpful for basic youth ministry practices and training.

Closing

And, now may you go from this place in peace, knowing we are all new creations in Christ.

May you go from this place in joy, knowing we are free to serve the kingdom of God and not

conformities of the world. May you go from this place in love, reminded that nothing you

have done or will ever do will ever separate you from the love of Jesus Christ our Lord. Go out

and serve God’s people with energy and imagination! Amen.
